Connect, Learn and Grow in my Peer Consultation Groups!
Couples counseling can feel like a juggling act sometimes, can't it?
Balancing the needs of two individuals,
working through complex relationship dynamics,
promoting healing and growth -
it's no small task.
Would you like a community of your peers who are juggling the same issues?
Much like every couple we meet is a unique blend of similarities and differences, the treatment techniques we use in our work with couples also have their own unique mix of commonalities and distinctions.
Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Focuses on improving verbal communication, increasing intimacy, reducing conflict, and creating shared meaning. Requires openness to discussing feelings and willingness to make changes.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT): Based on attachment theory, helps couples understand and reorganize their emotional responses. Effective in creating secure bonds but might not be as helpful for those with severe mental health issues or ongoing affairs.
Narrative Therapy: Helps couples see their issues as separate entities and encourages them to rewrite their "relationship story" positively. Requires high levels of creativity and openness.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT): Concentrates on finding solutions rather than focusing on problems themselves. Beneficial for quick solutions but may not address deeper, underlying issues.
Imago Relationship Therapy: Focuses on resolving conflicts by understanding each partner's childhood experiences. Can lead to profound insights but might not suit couples uncomfortable with delving into their pasts.
Discernment Counseling: A short-term counseling approach aimed at helping couples decide whether to separate or seek intensive couples therapy. Helpful for decision-making but not designed to resolve relationship issues directly.
Relational Life Therapy (RLT): Encourages both partners to stand up for themselves with love, emphasizing clear communication, relational maturity, and personal growth. Requires a high level of commitment and willingness to explore oneself deeply.
Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT): Takes into account the biological basis of human behavior and how it impacts relationship dynamics. Emphasizes creating secure, functioning relationships but may not resonate with all couples.
Developmental Model of Couples Therapy: Recognizes that couples progress through predictable stages of development, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities. Addresses both individual and relationship issues, emphasizing differentiation.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) in Couples Therapy: Helps each partner understand their internal systems and how these systems interact with those of their partner. Promotes empathy, understanding, and effective communication between partners, but requires a high level of introspection and openness.
How do we choose the best approach and gain confidence in our abilities?
It can make our job much more challenging when we are trying to navigate these tough couples by alone!

This is where my consultation group comes into the picture!
With comprehensive training in numerous couples therapy approaches (see my bio below) and 34 years of experience as a psychotherapist under my belt, I've navigated these waters over time. I've seen all sorts of relationship dynamics and helped couples overcome a wide range of challenges.
But that's not all. As a trauma therapist specializing in betrayal trauma, I bring a unique perspective to the table. I understand how deep the wounds of betrayal can go and how careful and compassionate the healing process needs to be.
I'm all about teamwork and the magic that happens when we help each other out.
I've learned so much from my mentors, and I think it's important that we pay it forward by sharing what we know.
Consider our consultation group as your crew. We're all in the same boat, ready to share our unique insights and thoughts on your case, helping craft an approach for your couple.
Think of it as a professional gathering of minds, a place where we, as therapists, can learn from each other, share our experiences, and grow together. It's teamwork at its finest!
